If you have been using computers and surfing the Internet for some time, as is likely the case since you're visiting a site for webmasters, then you are probably proficient at navigating most websites. The problem with such proficiency is that it is easy to lose touch with how a large portion of Internet users actually operate on the Web, and thus design a website that does not take advantage of the special needs of these "average users". So although you want your website visitors to like your website design, if Google and other search engines cant index the site properly then you aren't going to do well in searches and less visitors will end up at your website.

Some people may fall somewhere in between designing their own website and having someone else design the pages for them. One option is to create your own website using templates. A template is a webpage that is already configured and the user is able to go in and make small changes, such as the words, pictures, colors and fonts. If you are looking to create a small personal site or a simple information site, then using templates may be a helpful option to you. There are many web hosting providers who offer packages that include the hosting and a simple website that can be set up using their templates. These package deals usually cost a monthly fee and have have little variation allowed.

If you decide to create your own website pages you may want to purchase some additional tools such as a banner designer, Adobe Photoshop and some picture and slideshow designers. These tools will help you create an efficient and professional style website.
